Cardic Hypoxia... Moderate degrees of systemic hypoxia (or lack of sufficient oxygen) characteristically increase heart rate, cardiac output and myocardial contractility. Moderate to severe hypoxia of the heart muscle depresses myocardial contractility as a result of acidosis.

The difference in oxygen content between arterial and venous blood in the lungs is 10 times as great as the difference in carbon dioxide content. So if perfusion exceeds ventilation (or vise versa), it has minimal effect on carbon dioxide levels, but significant effect on oxygen levels in blood leaving the lungs. Intracellular pH has even a more critical effect on myocardial behavior. A drop in pH diminishes the amount of Ca++ released inside the cell in response to excitation, but also decreases of sensitivity of the muscle fibers to Ca++, resulting in the inability of the heart muscle to contract effectively. This can result in hypoxemia which cannot be compensated for with conventional exercise. Consequently the need has arisen to develop Body'Fit to address the high incidence of heart attack during exercise.

One of the most striking characteristics of the coronary circulation is the close parallelism of heart oxygen consumption and coronary blood flow, ie. blood flow increases with increase in available oxygen. Body'Fit pH Fitness exercises are particularly proficient in oxygenating the heart muscle with increasing metabolism by sustaining the ventilation/perfusion ratio at better than resting levels, and positioning the body for maximum flow with minimum work.

Adenosine is one of the key substances released almost immediately into the circulation by Body'Fit pH Fitness exercise. It's the main vasodilator of coronary blood vessels and even very small amounts of adenosine activate the endothelial K+ ATP channels and enhance nitric oxide release which further dilates the vessels. In higher concentrations adensosine acts directly on the vascular smooth muscle by activating K+ATP channels. Of course during most exercise the release of higher concentrations of adenosine is inhibited as circulation to the abdomen is drops below resting levels. If all three agents are inhibited, coronary blood flow is reduced during exercise, and contractile dysfunction and signs of myocardial eschemia become evident
